Hello!
My name is, Thabiso Nyezi, and I am a young, determined, and hardworking postgraduate student from the University College London (The Bartlett). I am passionate about Architecture storytelling through illustrations, drawings, and spatial arrangements of spaces. Currently, I have been living and studying in the UK for the past seven years. However, I was born and raised in South Africa which has heavily influenced my views towards culture and inclusivity where we believe in the ethos of ubuntu (I am because you are). An African ideology, where the idea of community is one of the building blocks of society. It is with that lens of understanding, where I have aspired to reveal nuances and promote diverse identities that facilitate the social and cultural enrichment of the people that will potentially inhabit the designed spaces.
During my time studying and gaining professional experience in the UK, I have worked through a range of projects between residential and commercial which have made me well acquainted with UK legislations, RIBA work stages and planning policies. My practice experience in Plymouth of close to two years, revealed more specific relationships and different disciplines that exist within these stages. I assisted in the design processes and compiled Design and Access statements of projects through RIBA stages 0-3, I was also afforded the opportunity to build my confidence through RIBA stage 4. I had been privy to have been part of a team where we developed a new housing scheme with over 300 units in Tolgus, Cornwall. The programme aimed to develop new house types that would be energy efficient in their sustainability and M4(2) and M4(3) compliant in their spatial arrangements. An important skill I learnt as an Architectural Assistant was communication
with clients and other members of the team from other professions.
The support I was given built my confidence to perform well in client meetings and attain successful design results. Thus, through my abilities to overcome I am motivated to join your practice and pursue any challenges ahead.

My undergraduate degree was from the University of Plymouth where I was awarded a First Class BA (Hons) degree and an RIBA Part I Bronze nomination. The highlight whilst studying there was working in group projects where we worked on 3 small live projects (Playscape, Bird Hide and Campsite shelter) and submitted an approved planning application. We worked through stages of design, construction, and handover where we witnessed the positive impact it had on the lives of the people that engaged with them. Progressing and studying at The Bartlett (UCL) evolved my design sensibilities to push the boundaries of imagination and creativity to address urban themes. Simultaneously, it required me to be methodical in my thinking and organisation, constantly designing from a multi-scalar approach remembering to pay close attention to detail. I grew to became an inventive and confident designer fuelled by my passion to use my abilities to be a voice that celebrated the value that can be found in marginalised communities. Academic and professional collaborative environments harness my skills in strategic urban and spatial planning based on research and participatory findings. In addition, finding creative means of communication through mediums such as storytelling through the production of graphic illustrations.
Thank you!
